The Medicine Park Aquarium: What to Expect before you Go.

As an avid nature enthusiast, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to visit the Medicine Park Aquarium with my family.

From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the center’s unique offerings and commitment to conservation.

Which is why I’m here today.

In this article, I will give you a complete breakdown of the Medicine Park Aquarium. From outstanding educational programs to a vast collection of marine life, this aquarium is outstanding in so many ways.

Without further ado, let’s jump into the article!

Where is the Medicine Park Aquarium?

The aquarium is located inside the small town of Medicine Park, Oklahoma just outside of the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge.

The aquarium and natural sciences center are located right off of State Highway 49 inside the tiny cobblestone community known as Medicine Park, Oklahoma.

Medicine Park has plenty of activities throughout the year, and a place that I highly recommend is the aquarium.

After several trips to the Wichita Mountains, I walk away in amazement after each of my trips out there. Whether it’s a new hiking trail, an unknown eatery, or in this case, a fantastic aquarium, I never leave the Wichita Mountains empty handed.

Firstly, the aquarium’s underwater tunnel allowed me to immerse myself in the marine world.

It was a surreal experience to walk through a 60,000-gallon tank filled with sharks, stingrays, and other aquatic creatures.

The Center’s vast collection of exotic species, including seahorses and jellyfish, was equally fascinating.

The aquarium’s underwater tunnel has a vast collection of native Oklahoma fish such as the Bluecat Catfish.

The Natural Sciences Center

In addition to the aquarium, the Natural Sciences Center offered interactive exhibits that taught us about the history and environment of the Wichita Mountains.

This was probably my favorite aspect of the park.

From geological formations to the diverse flora and fauna, we were blown away by the breadth of information that was available.

Conservation Combined with Education.

The Natual Sciences Center has programs all throughout the year for kids of all ages.

What really set the center apart was its emphasis on conservation and education.

The programs they offer focus on the preservation of endangered species and reducing plastic waste in the oceans. I thought it was inspiring to see an attraction that was committed to making a positive impact on the environment.

Unlike, some places that are happy to take your money, this was not the case. From a helpful and informative staff to superb conservation policies and programs, you feel like you get your money’s worth when you pay this place a visit.

As part of our visit, we participated in a behind-the-scenes tour. This allowed us to interact with some of the animals and learn how the aquarium operates. It was an exciting and unique experience that I would highly recommend to anyone visiting the center.

The Touch Tanks
The aquarium has over 90 native and non-native fish, reptile, amphibian, bird and mammal species on exhibit.

The touch tanks were equally impressive.

We got to get up close and personal with various marine creatures, including starfish, sea urchins, and crabs. It was a fantastic way to learn about these animals and their habitats.

The Aquarium is known for Events

The Medicine Park Aquarium and Natural Sciences Center also hosts a variety of events throughout the year. From educational workshops to holiday celebrations and even adult-only evenings, there is always something exciting happening at the center.

Finally, the center’s location near other attractions in the area made it a perfect destination for a full day trip. The charming town of Medicine Park and the stunning scenery of the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge provided additional opportunities to explore and connect with nature.
