Without further ado, let’s jump into the article!
For more information on spring break spots in Oklahoma, I like what travel Oklahoma has to offer. They do a wonderful job of introducing places that are off of the radar and won’t break the bank. You can check them out here.
Spring Break is Magnificent in the Wichita Mountains.
If you’re an outdoor enthusiast like me, then you can’t miss a trip to the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge.
Located in Southwestern Oklahoma, this refuge covers over 59,000 acres of stunning landscapes, making it an ideal destination for hiking, wildlife photography, and rock climbing.
This is also an outstanding backpacking playground as well. Each time I make it out to the refuge, I come back with a new takeaway after each journey.
With gigantic and gentle Oklahoma bison roaming the prairie and Texas longhorns slowing down traffic, this landscape has Oklahoma written all over it.
All in all, the refuge is the perfect place for camping, fishing, hiking, and outdoor photography.
Cherokee Nation
For those interested in history and culture, the Cherokee Nation has a few must-visit destinations.
For one, the Cherokee Heritage Center in Tahlequah, Oklahoma will showcase the rich history and traditions of the Cherokee people through interactive exhibits and live demonstrations.
Another spot worth stopping at is the Spiro Mounds Archeological Site. Another place that is rich in history that packs a punch when it comes to an educational trip.
The Spiro Mounds Archeological Site, which was once home to a vibrant Native American community, is ancient, but has gone through an overhaul to upgrade its facilities to keep up with the modern-day demand on cultural stops. With new facilities in the works and a friendly staff that is well-trained, this is a place that should garner some attention soon once things get finished.
The Trail of Tears National Historic Site is another important stop.
This piece of historic land commemorates the forced removal of the Cherokee people from their ancestral lands in the 1800’s.
Nonetheless, Cherokee Nation has lots to offer when it comes to a spring break spot.
Broken Bow
If you’re looking for a place to relax and unwind, then Broken Bow will be right up your alley!
Located in the Ouachita Mountains, this town offers breathtaking views of the forested hills and clear waters of the Mountain Fork River.
People flock down here for fishing, hiking, and camping opportunities no matter what time of year it is. For those who want to ditch the tent, Broken Bow is home to many luxurious cabins in the area. Just make sure to book ahead of time because the cabins book fast and frequently!
Illinois River
For those who feel like they need to be on the water, then I have the perfect spot for you to participate in.
The Illinois River.
This river will not give you the White water rush you’re looking for, but as far as scenic trips are concerned, this is a trip that is worth paying a visit to.
The Illinois River flows through the scenic Cookson Hills and offers a range of rapids for both beginners and experienced rafters.
You’ll have rentals for kayaks, canoes, and tubes on every corner. I love coming here during the summer months, but I might reconsider coming here in the spring for cooler temperatures and fewer crowds on the river.
Tahlequah also holds its own when it comes to camping and fishing too. For me, the only campsite that is bad is the one that is never booked.
Science Museum Oklahoma
If you’re traveling with kids, the Science Museum Oklahoma in Oklahoma City is a must-visit.
The museum features interactive exhibits that explore everything from outer space to the human body. They have live shows at the planetarium that are incredible along with the tinkering garage, where kids can experiment with science and engineering.
