Cedar Lake Campground in Hodgen, OK
Ah, Cedar Lake.
The 86-acre lake, surrounded by pine and oak covered hills, is the perfect place to go camping in Oklahoma.
Not only is this one of the best bass fishing lakes to try out, but the camping here is also superb.
The place is perfect to getaway and load up your tent, kayak, and hammock and unwind near the Talimena National Scenic Byway.
The campgrounds are clean and well-kept, and you will have plenty of hiking trails to choose from when you arrive.
The place offers several picnic sites with two fishing piers and comfort stations that are nearby. I love the fact that the campground was close to the Horsethief Springs Trail which is one of my favorite trails in the state.

Doris Campground in the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge
Do you love camping in the mountains? If so, you will love camping at Doris Campground in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge.
Doris will exceed your expectations when it comes to getting connected with nature. You will love watching the Oklahoma Bison and Texas Longhorn roam the area.
The campground here is pristine and the rangers here at the park are friendly and knowledgeable.
Doris Campground is a year-round campground with 90 campsites, ranging from drive-in tent and RV sites with electrical hookups, to more primitive, walk-in tent sites.
This is the perfect campground to bring the hammocks along and hang them between the thousands of trees in the area.
All in all, Doris is one of the best campgrounds in Oklahoma.

Black Mesa State Park in Kenton, OK
Are you a fan of star gazing? Then Black Mesa State Park will be your playground from now on.
This campground in the panhandle of Oklahoma boasts some of the darkest nighttime skies in the country. As a matter of fact, the dark skies draw numerous astronomy enthusiasts to the area every year as they make star gazing ideal.
Not only is this place ideal for star gazing, but it is also a birder’s paradise as well.
For instance, you can spot golden eagles, quail, and pinyon jays. Other wildlife in the area includes black bear, bobcat, mountain lion, mule deer, and bighorn sheep.
The nature preserve consists of 1,600 acres where you can hike and enjoy the landscape that is dotted with Colorado juniper and cactus clusters.
After taking in the gorgeous views and seeing the awe-inspiring milky way galaxy, you’ll never want to leave Oklahoma’s Red-Carpet County.
Chickasaw National Recreation Area in Sulphur, OK
The Chickasaw National Recreation Area has stunning scenery and is rich in history.
As a matter of fact, this recreational playground used to be named Platt National Park in the early 1900’s. By 1914, Platt had more visitors than either Yellowstone or Yosemite.
The campgrounds here are clean and well kept. The Rangers here were also extremely friendly and knowledgeable of the area.
Considering its rich history and being beautifully located near the Arbuckle Mountains make this area one of Oklahoma’s best campgrounds.
Greenleaf State Park in Braggs, OK
Rounding out our top 5 favorite campgrounds in Oklahoma sits in beautiful green country.
Greenleaf State Park.
This family-friendly state park is indeed a camper’s paradise. When it comes to camping, Greenleaf is hard to beat. You have excellent nature hiking trails that are nearby, and Greenleaf Lake is one of the best kayaking lakes in the State of Oklahoma.
The Park has a seasonal marina along with all of the amenities you could ever want in a State Park. If you bring your kids, you will be able to keep them busy with the splash pad and the miniature golf course that is conveniently located inside the park.
They also have a kids’ pond that allows children under 16 to fish at no charge with no permit required.
Keep in mind, fishing boats with motors are allowed, but motorized watercraft, such as jet skis are prohibited.
