Mary’s Café: A Texas-Sized Taste of Tradition in Strawn

Hi there! Today we are going to talk about Mary’s Café in Strawn, TX.

Mary’s Café offers comfort food that feels like home. Moreover, it delivers flavors that stay with you. One of my favorite things about my career traveling through small communities in the state of Texas is getting to try the mom and pop joints that offer delicious food. Last Tuesday, I heard that Mary’s Café in the tiny town of Strawn, TX was a must-stop on my way to Abilene. This place did not disappoint! I was immediately greeted by the friendly hostess that sat me next to a bunch of locals.

Eating chicken fried steak is one of my favorite comfort meals and that is exactly what I ordered. With word of mouth telling me to order the small portion, that is exactly what I did. They also have great cheeseburgers, but chicken fried steak is what they are known for so that is what I did. My plate came out in about fifteen minutes and it was gigantic.

Served with delicious whipped mashed potatoes and gravy along with buttered Texas toast. This was a meal that I will recommend for those who have Texas bucket list food trips. They have been opened since 1986 and Mary herself cooks seven days a week. This reminded me of my Grandma Tate’s chicken fried steak that I had growing up. If you’re ever in this part of Texas, I highly recommend this place!
