Labor Day Road Trips: Kansas City, MO

The Union Station in downtown Kansas City is free to the public and is a must-see stop while visiting.

Kansas City sits about five hours north of Oklahoma City and is well worth the drive.

First of all, the city is famous for its world-class barbecue and vibrant jazz scene.

The Plaza District offers upscale shopping, European-style fountains, and a wide variety of local restaurants.

Additionally, families will enjoy the Kansas City Zoo and Science City at Union Station, both family-friendly.

Even better, there’s a thriving arts scene with murals, galleries, and live performances sprinkled throughout the city.

As far as labor day road trips are concerned, KC is hard to beat!

San Antonio, Texas – History and Riverfront Charm

The River Walk in San Antonio brings thousands of tourists from around the world with its world class ambiance and unique culture.

San Antonio may be a longer drive—around seven hours—but it’s packed with unforgettable sights.

Most notably, the River Walk is a scenic, pedestrian-friendly area with shops, restaurants, and relaxing boat tours.

The Alamo offers a deep dive into Texas history, just steps away from modern downtown attractions.

Furthermore, kids will love the San Antonio Zoo, SeaWorld, and nearby theme parks like Six Flags Fiesta Texas.

Also, the vibrant culture reflects Spanish, Mexican, and Texan roots, making every block feel culturally rich.

Without a doubt, San Antonio makes for a lively, fun-filled Labor Day escape.

Memphis, Tennessee – Music, Culture, and Southern Soul

Another city that is rich in history and famous Barbeque, Memphis, TN is less than 8 hours from OKC and has a lot to offer.

About six and a half hours east of Oklahoma City, Memphis oozes Southern charm and musical heritage.

Not only is it the home of Elvis Presley, but it also boasts iconic spots like Beale Street.

In addition, the National Civil Rights Museum offers powerful exhibits and historical insights into American history.

Moreover, Memphis barbecue is legendary—bring your appetite and a sense of adventure.

Also, families can explore the Memphis Zoo or take a Mississippi River paddleboat cruise.

All things considered, Memphis is a dynamic city that combines history, food, and unforgettable music.

Hot Springs, Arkansas – Relaxation and History

Bath House Row in Hot Springs Arkansas has several shops and eateries on the strip. The Quapaw bath house was our favorite hot spring spa.

Hot Springs lies about four hours east of Oklahoma City and offers a unique blend of nature and history.

To begin with, the town’s namesake springs have drawn visitors for generations seeking rest and healing.

Bathhouse Row provides a glimpse into the past, while local spas offer modern-day relaxation experiences.

In contrast, families can enjoy nearby hiking trails, lake cruises, and scenic views of the Ouachita Mountains.

Also, the quaint downtown area features art galleries, gift shops, and historic landmarks worth exploring.

All in all, Hot Springs is perfect if you want both adventure and calm.

St. Louis, Missouri – A Bigger Weekend Adventure

The Gateway Arch National Park is one of many things to do in St. Louis.

If you’re up for a longer drive, St. Louis delivers big-time family fun. It’s about six hours away.

We’re heading there this weekend, and we’re excited about the Gateway Arch, museums, and the zoo.

In fact, many attractions in St. Louis are free, making it a budget-friendly trip for families.

Besides, it’s packed with cool neighborhoods, great food, and a rich cultural vibe.

Also, don’t miss City Museum—a giant indoor playground that’s fun for kids and adults alike.

Even though it’s a longer trip, the journey is filled with cool cities and fun stops.
