7 Reasons Why you Should Visit Medicine Park

Sunsets like these are one of the many reasons why people fall in love with the Wichita Mountains.

Enjoy the Mountain Views

#1. The Wichita Mountains

The Wichita Mountains is a one-of-a-kind destination in SW Oklahoma. Spanning over 59,000 acres, this hidden mountain escape in the middle of the Great Plains is a haven for wildlife and adventures of all breeds. I could write articles for days about this place, but I am going to save that for another time. This place checks all the boxes when it comes to sheer beauty in Oklahoma.

#2 Drive Up or Hike Up Mount Scott

Mount Scott is situated on the eastern edge of the Wichita Mountains. At 2.464 feet above sea level, it is one of Oklahoma’s highest peaks. Being able to take in these amazing views is one of many reasons to visit Medicine Park.

For my fellow hikers, you can choose to hike up to the summit instead of driving. Be sure to get there early in the summertime as it starts to heat up fairly early.

Make a Splash at Bath Lake

#3. Go Swimming at Bath Lake

Bath Lake was formed in the 1920’s as the town’s swimming hole and has remained a hidden gem in SW Oklahoma. Located at the center of downtown, this lake contains beautiful waterfalls, stairs that provide entry at different points, and plenty of both shallow and deep areas, allowing you to sit, stand, swim, or float and enjoy the stunning scenery.

Tacos with a View

#4. Eat at Chad’s

How does eating delicious tacos on the Patio overlooking the Wichita Mountains sound to you? Chad’s El Sabores Mexican Restaurant is one of many reasons to visit Medicine Park. From Phenomenal ceviche to Big Horn Queso, Chad’s should definitely be on your radar. I haven’t tried their brunch yet, but I keep hearing that their chorizo enchiladas are to die for. #7. Visit the Holy City of The Wichita’s

This little slice of old Jerusalem in Oklahoma spans over 66 acres is known as the Holy City of the Wichita’s. Inside the city, you’ll find numerous full-sized buildings that will remind you of biblical times. Buildings that include the temple court, the Lord’s Supper building, Herod’s Court, and Pilate’s judgement hall, all built with locally quarried granite in the 1930’s. Holy City is also famous for having the nation’s longest-running annual Easter passion play. With so much unique history here, Holy City is one of many reasons to visit Medicine Park.
