You’ve come to the right place if you’ve been looking to cool yourself down in the blistering Oklahoma heat.
During the peak seasons, the weather can easily hit triple digits. So, refreshing yourself in one of the many great swimming holes the area offers can be a welcoming experience.
Which is why I am here today:
In this article, I wanted to introduce you to four of my favorite swimming holes in Oklahoma so that you can cool yourself down this summer.
Let’s take a look:
#1 Turner Falls- Davis, OK.
Turner falls in Davis has everything you need from a swimming hole.
It’s just over an hour south of the OKC metro and it rocks. It’s home to stunning scenery and one of the state’s tallest waterfalls that empties into a natural swimming pool.
Another thing that makes this area so unique is it’s surrounded by the beautiful Arbuckle Mountains that take your breath away. So, if you’re looking for a great swimming hole, you can’t go wrong with Turner Falls.
#2 Medicine Park Creek- Medicine Park, OK.
Medicine Park Creek is known for being the original cobblestone community. It’s located in southwestern Oklahoma and was once a trendy resort in the early 1920’s and 1930’s.
Now, Medicine Park Creek is an excellent swimming hole for locals and tourists alike. You’ll also find several bridges in the area, making it easy to cross the creeks.
While you’re there, check out one of the many ice cream parlors in the area to help you cool down.
#3 Broken Bow Lake
I could write a whole article on this place, but I’m going to save that for another day. Broken Bow Lake is a reservoir found in Southeastern Oklahoma, located on the Mountain Fork River and 9 miles from the town of Broken Bow.
It covers 14,000 acres and is bordered by 180 miles of shoreline. All of this makes it the perfect place for boating, water sports, swimming, fishing, and so much more.
One of the things I love about this swimming hole is how refreshing the water is every time I go there. Honestly, every time I go to this location, I’m more impressed than ever with the place.
#4 Illinois River- Tahlequah, OK
The last place I want to talk about is the Illinois River which is located on the Arkansas border in the quaint little town of Tahlequah.
If I’m honest, you haven’t had a good summer if you haven’t floated down the river and enjoyed the stunning views. The river is lined with gorgeous green trees and unique rock formations you just have to see.
If you haven’t experienced the river before, make sure you book a float trip with your friends or family to cool off during a hot summer’s weekend.
Final Thoughts & Takeaways
I hope this article has helped introduce you to some of my favorite places to cool down in Oklahoma.
There are many more destinations to check out, but these are always my go-to locations. Let me know what you think in the comment section below.
