J&W Grill: A Family Tradition

Growing up in Newcastle, I had many opportunities to pay a visit to the famous J&W in Chickasha.

Growing up in nearby Newcastle, I’ve had my fair share of visits to J&W Grill. It was a regular stop for my family whenever we ventured into Chickasha, and those visits have left lasting memories. Even now, as an adult, I make it a point to stop by whenever I find myself in the area.

In fact, a few months ago, I had the pleasure of introducing my daughter, Maddy, my wife, Dawna, and my sister-in-law, Tina, to the diner. We had just left the Rush Springs Watermelon Festival in August, and I couldn’t think of a better place to take my family for a quick bite before heading home. They were absolutely blown away by the quality of the food, especially the generous portions of crispy French fries that come alongside the onion burger.

Cozy Atmosphere with a Welcoming Vibe

J&W Grill is a true hometown diner, small and cozy with a vibe that instantly makes you feel at home. The space itself is modest, seating around 15 people if you’re lucky enough to snag a spot inside. But don’t worry if it’s full; they offer outdoor seating for when the place gets crowded. The diner’s location in the heart of downtown Chickasha makes it an ideal pit stop for locals and travelers alike. Chickasha is about a 30-minute drive southwest of Oklahoma City, so it’s easily accessible for anyone in the area looking for an authentic taste of Oklahoma. Inside, the friendly staff greets you with a warm smile, and the locals are just as welcoming. It’s the kind of place where you instantly feel like a regular, even if it’s your first time visiting.

The Chickasha Festival of Lights and More

If you’re planning a trip to Chickasha, the timing couldn’t be better. The annual Chickasha Festival of Lights is one of the biggest events in the town, drawing thousands of visitors every December. As a local tradition, it’s an event that brings the community together, showcasing the beauty of the town’s holiday lights. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if I find myself stopping by J&W Grill again this December before heading out to enjoy the Christmas lights. What better way to kick off an evening of holiday fun than with a satisfying onion burger?

  1. If I’m not mistaken, this grill used to be in an airstream camper and when I was in college in the late 60s and early 70s, this is my favorite place to go! I can’t believe they’re still open! They are in a different place, but apparently the burgers are still as good as they used to be. I live in this city, but I have got to go back there and try that one of their onion burgers
