The Top 5 Christmas Towns in Oklahoma

Hi there!

With Christmas just around the corner, there’s no better way to celebrate this festive holiday than venturing out to some small towns in Oklahoma that embody the Christmas spirit.

Which is why I am here today.

Today I am going to introduce you to the top 5 Christmas towns in Oklahoma to check off your bucket list.

Fair warning, I am going to leave off Oklahoma’s two largest cities- (OKC & Tulsa) because I think there is something magical about small town Oklahoma when it comes to celebrating Christmas.

Without further ado, Let’s jump into the article.

Christmas Towns in Northwest Oklahoma

Woodward

The Crystal Christmas celebration in Woodward, Oklahoma.

Woodward, Oklahoma which is approximately 150 miles NW of OKC is full of small-town Christmas charm.

The Crystal Christmas festival starts off with their famous festivities that include dazzling fireworks, Christmas carol singing, and hot cocoa concessions.

What began in 1995 as a small local light show, has quickly become a shining spectacle in NW Oklahoma. I personally love this event because of the community involvement that surrounds it.

All in all, this small western frontier town will surprise you when it comes to great Christmas towns.

Enid

Enid, Oklahoma is famous for having the World’s tallest fresh-cut Christmas Tree.

As far as outstanding Christmas towns are concerned, Enid is a great one.

Christmas in the Park is the main attraction each year during the holiday season. The day after Thanksgiving is when this town on the Oklahoma plains begins to show off.

One reason why is the gigantic Christmas tree that oversees the western plains. At 140 feet tall, Enid’s Christmas tree stood 75 percent taller than the famous Rockefeller Center Tree in New York City.

This indeed is the World’s tallest fresh-cut Christmas tree. Pretty cool if you ask me! This enormous tree is known as the ‘one’ or the Christ Tree. And we can see why.

The gigantic fir was handpicked just outside of California’s Shasta-Trinity National Forest and traveled over 2,000 miles to the Sooner State.

But that’s not all, Enid doesn’t take a back seat to anyone when it comes to other festivities which include the following:

  • Horse-drawn wagon rides
  • Tasty Food Trucks
  • Live Christmas music
  • A Christmas Light Parade
  • Meet and greet with Santa

Enid has a lot to offer, and you will want to stay updated with their Calendar of Events. You can check them out at Christmas in Enid

Muskogee is A True Christmas Town

The famous Castle of Muskogee, Oklahoma

Muskogee, Oklahoma is indeed a true Christmas town. They are known for having the Castle of Muskogee and host to the World’s largest collections of holiday inflatables.

Castle Christmas is the center of holiday attraction from the end of November till the first of the New Year. You will be introduced to the smell of fresh kettle corn from Rudolph’s cafe and stay busy from that point on in this Winter wonderland experience.

With over thousands of lights to see, this is the perfect family getaway for those who have young kids. Here is a list of Muskogee’s Christmas Menu this year:

  • Tractor-drawn Hayrides.
  • Ornament creations with Santa’s elves.
  • Camel and Pony rides for the little ones.
  • A spectacular holiday gift shop for the Adults.

If I’ve learned something about living in Oklahoma, is to never underestimate what small towns can do during the holiday season.

Guthrie

Guthrie’s annual month-long Territorial Christmas Celebration will take you back in time with local residents dressed in their Victorian attire.

Guthrie, Oklahoma which is 30 minutes north of Oklahoma City is worthy of a visit this holiday season if you ask me.

The annual month-long Territorial Christmas is unlike anything you’ve ever experienced. This is where the entire town transforms from the 21st Century to the 19th Century.

To capture this old school approach, the town of Guthrie has teamed up with Heartland’s Amtrak so that you can experience a train ride that follows up with the 19th Century way of life.

Most generally, the Heartland Flyer’s usual stopping point from Ft. Worth, TX is Oklahoma City. But thanks to the city of Guthrie and Amtrak, they have teamed up to provide this unique transportation to Guthrie as part of the town’s annual celebration.

This Train ride will be available from December 10-12th so you will want to make sure and book ahead of time as it fills up pretty quick.

In addition to the train ride, Guthrie also has the following attractions that make this trip worthwhile. Let’s take a look:

  • The Victorian Walk– Here is a chance to witness residents in territorial-era attire providing warm treats and singing Christmas carols throughout the night.
  • Candlelight Trolley Tour– Another opportunity to see Guthrie’s downtown area during the magical time of the year.
  • Territorial Homes Tour– This features several homes decorated in the style of 19th and 20th century.

Other activities in Guthrie will include the annual journey to Bethlehem reenactment and also include some concerts throughout the month. To stay updated on this unique event, please check them out at Christmas in Guthrie

Where: 212 West Oklahoma, Guthrie, OK 73044

When: November 26th- December 10th.

Chickasha

The Festival of Lights in Chickasha, OK

Perhaps a moment of truth here. I might be just a little bit biased when it comes to the Festival of Lights in Chickasha Oklahoma.

This was only 30 minutes from where I grew up, so I got to see this holiday event outperform itself year-in and year-out during my childhood.

Recognized as one of the top holiday light shows in the nation, the Annual Festival of Lights is a can’t-miss spectacle each December.

3.5 million lights and an enormous 172 ft tree is why. But one of the reasons I like it so much is the fact that this is drive-thru friendly.

Sure, it is wonderful to walk around your loved ones taking in the sights, but often at times, especially here in Oklahoma where the cold wind actually does find its way whipping down the plain can be downright miserable.

However, when the weather is great, this holiday scene is where you will want to find yourself after thanksgiving till the end of the year.

Located in the scenic Shannon Springs Park, the Festival of Lights has plenty to offer for Christmas enthusiasts. Let’s take a look:

  • Horse-drawn carriage rides
  • Outstanding Hot Cocoa for everyone
  • An elaborate line of Delicious Food Truck options
  • Ice Skating
  • Ferris Wheel and Carousel Rides

This is an annual stop for my Family and I as we walk away with amazement each and every time we attend.

Where: 2400 South 9th St, Chickasha, OK 73018

When: November 19th- December 31st
