The Robbers Cave Trail

 

The Robbers Cave Trail offers hiking enthusiasts spectacular views of Southeastern Oklahoma.

 

The Robbers Cave Trail is beautifully located in the scenic, hilly woodlands of the San Bois Mountains in Southeastern Oklahoma.

It’s also rich in history.

As a matter of fact, this route leads to the actual Robbers Cave which is believed to once have been the hide out of infamous outlaws such as Belle Starr and Jesse James.

Bring your best pair of sturdy hiking boots, because you will need to traverse the rocky ground and prepare yourself for some great views at the top of the hike.

Beaver Lodge Nature Trail

 

The Beaver Lodge Nature Trail.

 

If you’ve participated in hiking in Southeastern Oklahoma, then more than likely you have come across a trail known as the beaver lodge nature trail.

What I like about this particular trail is that it’s the ideal trail for some quiet time. Every single time I take this trail, I am rewarded with the much-needed peace and quiet that I have been yearning for.

Also, this is a popular trail for birding, camping, and fishing, and it usually takes about an hour to complete. Nonetheless, this is a trail worth checking out this autumn.

 

The Forty Foot Hole

You didn’t think I was going to leave off the famous forty-foot hole trail in the Wichita Mountains, did you?

I wouldn’t dare.

Anyways, this is a fairly easy trail that you can probably do with your kids. It’s steep, it’s thrilling, and you get a nice waterfall at the end.

You will scramble around some boulders before you get a glimpse of Oklahoma’s diverse landscape.

 

Fall Hiking in Oklahoma’s Panhandle

 

Black Mesa Trail

 

The Black Mesa Trail.

 

Surrounded by wild juniper and cactus clusters for as far as the eye can see sits the Black Mesa Trail.

Get to know this 8.5 mile out-and-back near Kenton, Oklahoma. Generally considered a moderately challenging hike, it takes an average of 3 hours to complete and that’s if you’re moving.

A popular trail for birding and hiking, the black mesa trail will also give you the solitude you are looking for. Furthermore, this is a trail that is always worth mentioning when it comes to fall hiking.

 

Fall Hiking in Northeastern Oklahoma

 

Sparrow Hawk Trail

 

Tahlequah, Oklahoma.

 

I saved this trail for last because it’s one of my favorites. I have hiked this trail many times when I was in college, and it’s still one of the hikes that rank high on the list.

Beloved by many of the Tahlequah faithful, this trail is one of the most popular hikes you can participate in Northeastern Oklahoma.

Taking a little over an hour and a half to complete, this trail will reward you with some incredible views of the stunning Illinois River and the rocky bluffs that come with it.

All in all, this is the perfect trail for fall hiking.
