Our 5 Favorite Dog-Friendly Trails in Oklahoma
Southeastern Oklahoma
#1. The Tree Trail at Beavers Bend State Park.
You will begin and end your hike on this trail at the Forest Heritage Center Museum. This scenic path will lead you past a large Native American sculpture, and winds along the floodplain of Beaver Creek. The trees will be marked in WHITE to keep you on the path. I absolutely love this trail. There is also a covered bridge that make it great for keeping the attention of kids.
Southwestern Oklahoma
#2. Quanah Parker Trail in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge.
The Quanah Parker trail is one of my favorite dog-friendly trails in Oklahoma. It’s a beautiful 1.6 mile out-and back trail that takes about 30 minutes to complete. This trail will showcase Oklahoma’s rocky landscape. If you go in the spring and summer, the trail is filled with beautiful wildflowers. The refuge is home to over 800 plant species. This is the perfect trail to see stunning views of Quanah Parker Lake and the beautiful bison that roam the area.
Northeastern Oklahoma
#3 The Sweet Emotion Trail in Collinsville, OK
This trail is a true hidden gem in Collinsville, OK. It’s an easy dog-friendly trail for all levels as it winds through the woods and brings you to a rocky ledge overlooking Collinsville Lake. I went in the middle of the week with my dog Wednesday, and we had the entire place to ourselves. Hikers, dog walkers, and mountain bikers love the Sweet Emotion Trail.
Central Oklahoma
#4. The Sutton Wilderness Trail in Norman, OK.
This 160-acre is perfect for your dogs. Texas horned lizards, white-tailed deer and foxes are some of the watchable wildlife you experience during your walk. This wilderness park is a popular dog-walking destination for Norman residents. For bird watchers, bring your binoculars to spot more than 200 species of birds or head to the fishing pond that is located on the trail for some quality fishing.
Northwestern Oklahoma
#5. The Dinosaur Trail at Black Mesa State Park.
Try this 1-mile beauty with your best friend near Clayton, NM. Generally considered an easy route, it takes about 20 minutes to complete. The best times to visit this trail are March through November. You will be amazed at the gigantic dinosaur tracks that dot the area. For more information, please check out https://www.travelok.com
